A junior and the third of four children in a military family, Ruth was just 16 when she and a teacher and 26 classmates from Yuba City High School were killed in a bus wreck near Martinez, CA. Born in Alaska, the family had moved to Yuba City two years earlier. She was a straight-A student and planned to graduate early. She had been accepted into Brigham Young University for the fall of the 1976 semester. Excited about college, she had already picked out an apartment to share with her older sister. She loved animals, cheerleading and singing with a church group, Chante.
