Mr. Ellerbe was born August 17, 1907, in Bennettsville, S.C., a son of William and Rose Bass Ellerbe, and came here in 1926. He worked with the U.S. Steel Corp., retiring as a burner. He was a member of the church, its Burial committee, its Senior Usher Board, the NAACP, West Side Senior Citizens Group, and USW Local 1330.
Besides his wife, the former Sarah Mildred Ratliff, whom he married April 15, 1937, he leaves two sons, W. Jerry of Dover, Del., and W. Glenn of Cincinnati; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred J. Dowell of Cleveland; four brothers, John, Roosevelt, Cleveland, and Henry, all of Youngstown; two sisters, Mrs. Luticia Haskew of Bennington, S.C. and Mrs. Mamie Sowell of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren, including George G. Glover whom he reared; and three great-grandchildren.
A son, Brolie F., is deceased.
