OLATHE - Dennis James Flynn, age 64, passed away Monday morning, March 29, 2010, at his residence. Dennis was born to James W. and Barbara (DeVries) Flynn on Sept. 11, 1945 in Sacramento, Calif. He spent his childhood and graduated from high school in Roseville, Calif.
In 1963, Dennis joined the U. S. Navy and served in the Gulf of Tonkin aboard the USS Brister as a Radioman until 1966. He then went on to work for the Department of Army as a Logistics Coordinator and retired in 1993. For a retirement party, Dennis dressed in full regalia as Vanna Flynn for a game show spoof.
On April 20, 1990, he married Sherry (Hollcroft) Flynn in South Lake Tahoe. He loved to hunt, fish, reload, bowl, golf, play cribbage and pinochle, and just enjoyed living in Colorado. Dennis was a kind and gentle man who loved to tease and kept his true feelings hidden unless warranted. He was a patient teacher of hunting and shooting skills. His luck "skill" at lake fishing was incredible. His smile, warmth, love and friendship will be cherished memories and greatly missed. So many times, he made us "walk this way."
Among Dennis' survivors are his wife, Sherry (Hollcroft) Flynn; his sons, Steven and Paul Flynn of Sacramento, Calif; sisters, Barbara Jones of Olathe and Patricia Flynn of Monticello, N. Y.; brother, Kelly Flynn of Roseville, Calif.; and one grandson, Steven Flynn, Jr. of Olathe. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service, in honor and celebration of Dennis' life, will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday, April 3, 2010, at the Olathe United Methodist Church, 512, Hersum Ave., with Pastor Doug Hill officiating. The family asks that donations be made to the San Juan Cancer Center, 600 S. 5th Ave., Montrose, CO 81401.
