Shelly Ann Overby Morrison passed away Monday, Oct. 31, 2011. Shelly lost her brief battle with cancer during the night. She was at home, comfortable in her own bed, with her sisters and mother close by. Memorial Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at Ft. Parker State Park in the activities center. The Rev. Byron Miller will be officiating.

Shelly was born in Waco Aug. 17, 1946, to Shelton and Florene Overby. She graduated from Richfield High School and Baylor University. She married Richard Morrison in 1968 and together they raised two children. Shelly loved being a mother, a grandmother and caring for her family.

Shelly was also a passionate reader and loved bird watching. Her great joy these past three years has been working at Ft. Parker State Park spending her time outdoors and meeting new people. Shelly loved the beauty of the park, and it is as perfect a place as any to share our memories of what she meant to everyone. Shelly was patient and kind and a source of great strength to those that knew and loved her. She was reserved but brought comfort and compassion to all that she met.

She was preceded in death by her father, Shelton Overby; and by her husband of 37 years, Richard Morrison.

She is survived by her mother, Florene Overby; her sisters, Kathy and Jane Overby of Waco; her son, Kent Morrison and his family, Sabrina and Sydney; her daughter, Jessica Morrison and her family, Tom and Alexandria Brooks, all in Austin; and a large loving extended family.

Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts during this sad time, as that is what helps the family weather this dark hour. But as we are sad, we also are joyful. Joy for the lessons she taught each of us, and for the example she was. Joy that she did not suffer and decline, but instead was positive and able to spend time with her family. Joy that she spent this time in her life doing something she loved. Yet, she will be missed by us all.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask anyone so inclined to make a donation to The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at www.orcrf.org or the National Parkinson Foundation at www.parkinson.org.
