Mrs. Ashford was born September 1, 1924 in Fulbright, TX to William Oscar Carroll and Jessie Beatrice Ridens Carroll. She graduated from Chidester High School in Chidester, Arkansas and attended Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University) in Magnolia, Arkansas. She was a long time resident of Shreveport where she was a cosmetologist and salon owner for over 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her son Royce Alan Ashford. She is survived by her loving husband Robert F. Ashford Jr. of 63 years of marriage; her daughter, Robbie Nell Ashford Chalk and husband Jimmy; one son Richard Milton Ashford and wife Cathy; sister-in-law Raye Childers Carroll; grandchildren, Robert Lawrence Chalk and wife Monica, Ginny Hutchinson Wadsworth and husband Jamie, Lindsey Michelle Ashford, Robert Alan Ashford and wife Tiffany, Ashley Bullard and husband Jessie, and Randall Houston Ashford and his wife Meghan Elizabeth Hall Ashford; great-grandchildren, Erik, Lia and Haley Chalk, Royce Jennings Ashford, London Grace Ashford, and Rilee Wadsworth.

She had a younger brother and two sisters, all now deceased, Maxie Oscar Carroll, Edith Earl Carroll Crouse and her youngest sister Elizabeth Anne Carroll both of Chidester, Arkansas. They are all interred at Missouri Cemetery in Chidester, Arkansas.

Funeral services were held 12:00 noon, July 11, 2007 at the Pinecroft Baptist Church. Officiating was Brother Marty Wright. Interment was in Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport. Pallbearers were Pete Erwin, Joe Murray, David McKenzie, Woodrow Parham, Huey Young and R.C. Feazel.

"Mammaw" loved to travel. Car vacations with the family were always looked forward to. Trips to the Ozarks, The Blue Ridge Parkway, Yellowstone, the Tetons, Grand Canyon, Branson, Missouri and the Florida gulf coast were just among her many destinations. Her two favorite stops were tiny little Maggie Valley, North Carolina and Hawaii.

She was also an avid crafter and seamstress, making dolls, clothes, and holiday decorations. She was active in the Pinecroft Baptist Church Quilters.

"Mammaw" had a great passion for family and the holidays. She loved Christmas and Thanksgiving and just being with her family.
