Funeral services for L.J. Carter, 82, Grand Saline were held Friday morning at Bartley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Winskie officiating. Burial was in Woodside Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.

Carter died February 16 in a local hospital.He was born May 22, 1916, in Canton, son of Leisel and Willie Mixen Carter.

He lived in Grand Saline most of his life and retired from Morton Salt Company in 1972.

Carter was a member of the Grand Saline chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. While in the service, he received a Purple Heart, the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Theater Campaign medal with two Bronze Stars, the Bronze Arrowhead and the Good Conduct medal. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Carter, on May 10, 1991.

Carter is suvivied by two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Dick Meyers of Richardson and J'Lynn and Andy Anderson of Frisco; a son and daughter-in-law, Onta and Sue Holloway of Upland, California; a brother, Woodie Carter of Van; sister, Atha Wilburn of Canton; and three grandchildren, Carter Meyers, Mandy Meyers and Toni Anderson.Pallbearers were Junior Corley, Cliff Campbell, Tommy Ramey, Herman Alexander, Bill Carter and Bill Crocker.
