Mary Eliza was born in Louisville, KY and was schooled in Glasgow, KY. She graduated from Georgetown College in 1920. After graduation, she got a job teaching school in Augusta, GA. There she met her future husband, Leonard CM Bloss, Sr. He had been stationed there for a time, but his home was in East Orange, NJ. They were married July 7, 1928 in the home of her grandmother, Mrs. D. D. Allen. They had two sons, Leonard CM, Jr. and Bryant Allen.

She was a member of the General Society of Mayflower Decendants and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Leonard was a civil engineer and so they lived in many locales in New England and Canada during his short career. They were living in Rutland, VT in 1946 when Leonard died suddenly of a heart attack at the young age of 49. After a year, she moved with her two boys back to Glasgow, KY where she taught high school math and physics. She moved to Louisville in 1956 to be closer to her sons. There she taught high school until her retirement. She loved to travel. In 1962 she took a seven week tour of Europe including Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Scotland, Holland, and the Scandinavian Countries. Mary was active in her church, Okolona Baptist Church, singing in the church choir.
