Barney was born September 16, 1924, in Evansville, Indiana, to John and Bessie (Cutteridge) Buehler. He was a graduate of Central High School. Barney was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany during WWII. He attended First Baptist Church for over 40 years. Barney worked for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation as a custodian and had been employed at Chrysler Corporation in both St. Louis and Evansville. He was a fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and enjoyed working in his vegetable garden.

He is survived by his wife, to whom he was married for 62 years, Lorena (Mitchell) Buehler of Evansville; one son, Donald Buehler and his wife, Diana, of Evansville; two grandchildren, Shannon Eagleson and her husband, Jerrod, of Newburgh and Michael Buehler and his wife, Jennifer, of Newburgh; three great-grandchildren, Ryan Eagleson, Jason Eagleson and Kylie Buehler; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
