Mabel coats was born in Port Glasgow, Scotland. She and her parents came to the United States, settling in Detroit in 1923. She met and married her husband, the late Leonard W. Coats. In 1950, they moved to Waterford, building and operating their first funeral home. Mabel was an active member and past Matron of Honor in the Metropolitan Chapter #470 O.E.S. and member of Joseph C. Bird Chapter #294 O.E.S. Clarkston for many years. She was also a member of the White Shrine, Waterford Garden Club, The American Business Women’s Association and Community of Christ Church of Waterford. She loved doing all kinds of arts and crafts and was an accomplished china painter.
