Her zest for life earned her the nickname "Sport" in childhood from an adoring uncle. Throughout life that enthusiasm & drive stayed with her. At the Dove's Nest Assisted Living Facility her friends & caretakers mourned the loss of their "life of the party" who'd been with them since 2007. Mayme was born to George W. & Frances A. Bratcher. She had a thirst for knowledge that led her to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Incarnate Word University & the return to school, at age 60, to earn a Master's degree from Our Lady of the Lake University. She worked as a clinical psychologist & was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 57 years. Mayme was noted for sharing rich colorful stories & fond memories from her more than a century of life. She loved talking about her family; parents & siblings, Carrie A. Crenshaw & Dr. Alfred & Rev. Marcellus Bratcher, all of whom preceded her in death. She also bragged about her husband George A. Barrett, who worked as a Pullman Porter for 25 years before his death in 1981. Family meant a lot to her. She doted on relatives including her sole surviving grand-niece, Sudonna Ward; Sudonna's daughter, Dawnalisa Edwards & Dawnalisa's son Donovon. Sudonna recalls her aunt coming to visit family in Tulsa, Oklahoma every summer during the '50s thru '90s. Sudonna fondly recalls how "Aunt Mayme" loved yellow watermelon & always gave her gifts. "Aunt Mayme" was fascinated by seeing her great, great, great grand-nephew Donovon come into the world in 2001. Mayme also found delight in visits from her family at Dove's Nest. A lifelong Texan, Mayme lived at times in Flatonia, Muldoon & San Antonio. She will be missed by family & friends, but they find comfort in knowing she embraced life to the fullest, enjoyed her time on earth & is now at peace with loved ones in Heaven.
