Dr. General Eckie Behn, one of twelve children of Mr. John M. Sr. and Mrs. Nancy Bramlett Behn, was born in Hempstead, Texas, October 16, 1894.
He grew up in McKinney, Texas where he attended the local public schools. He was a graduate of Bishop College of Marshall, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Following his graduation he was inducted November 1, 1917 into the United States Army where he served his country honorably until June 25, 1919. After his tour of duty in the Armed Forces he earned his Doctorate of Denistry at Meharry Medical College of Nashville, Tennessee.
In his early adult life on March 7, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois he was married to Miss Levianne Toombs who preceded him in death on October 13, 1979. No children were born to this union. On July 26, 1941 he was appointed by the President of the United States to the position of Examining Dentist for Chicago City Local Board No. 2, Illinois. In 1978 he moved to Berkeley, California where he resided until his death.
Dr. Behn leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted sister, Mrs. Julia Barbara Reid of Berkeley; many, many nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
