Obituary of My Life
To many friends who have shared in my life, I was born in Paris, Texas on July 21, 1934. My parents were Joe and Esther Bell Reed. Both have gone home to be with the Lord.

I was the middle daughter of three daughters. I was preceded in death by my oldest sister, Odessa Moore. Mary Ruth Hughes is my surviving younger sister. Along with her family, she still resides in our hometown Paris, Texas.

I came to accept the Lord at a very young age. I was reared in the Baptist Faith and was a member of Mt. Pisagah Baptist Church in Paris, Texas. Rev. Harvey was our church pastor.

I became a mother and homemaker at a very young age. Many years later I moved to California as a single parent with six wonderful children to raise.

Upon my arrival in California, my children and I immediately started attending Fellowship Baptist Church where my sister was a member. I joined Fellowship under the pastorial guidance of the late Rev. E.M. Daniels in 1967.

I continued my education at Fresno State University, graduating with a BA degree and a teaching credential. I was able to teach kindergarten through twelfth grade and junior college. I taught school in this city for over 30 years in the Fresno Unified School District.

The final paragraph is that of my family.

Our mother was more than a mother and grandmother to us. She loved her children and grandchildren. She loved her church and most of all she loved her God. Throughout her life she leaned on Him for her strength during many life situations that at times seemed to be unbearable.

She talked about her trust in God constantly. Towards the end of her life, as she rested in her hospital bed, she saw Angels in her room, and began to verbally announce it. She knew where they were positioned in the hospital room and they had come for her. Peacefully on June 10th, she joined her son Rodney, her parents, Joe and Esther Bell Reed, and her sister Odessa Moore, as they bask in The Glory of God.

She leaves behind five children to continue her legacy: Kenneth Bass, Valerie Bass-Crear, Esther Bass Malone, Bernard Bass, and Veda Bass-Marin. There are also fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends who loved her dearly.

She will live in our hearts forever and we thank God for the life we shared with our Mother.

Pallbearers: Gione Lewis, Brian Duckworth II, Roy Grace, Jeremy Malone, Lloyd Atkins, Edmund Zeno and Larry Hendrix.

Honorary Pallbearers: Bryson Malone, Ricky Bass, Kerman Banks and Bernard Bass, Jr.

Services held on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 11:00 a.m., Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 2529 Belmont Avenue, Fresno, California, Dr. Richard L. Daniels, Officiating.

Services entrusted to the professional care of Sterling & Smith Funeral Directors, 1484 Fresno Street, Fresno, CA.
