Nona Beth Hawkins, 66, long time resident of Ellis County lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Ennis Care Center.
Nona was a born on December 25, 1944, to James "Jim" Merdy and Nona Elva (Dover) Hawkins in Ennis, Texas. She attended grade school in Byrd and graduated from Ennis High School.

She worked at the Valero Gas Station in Ennis for many years as the assistant manager. She worked for many years with the Cat Rescue with Dr. David Chancelor.

She is survived by nephews, David Belew and Steve Spence: nieces; Marlene Belew Norcross and her husband, Wayne Norcross, Angela Belew, June Belew, Dahna Belew Kitchens and husband, Steven Kitchens: great nieces; Jame' Norcross, Erica Colvin, Brooklyn Kitchens; grandnephews; Chase Norcross, Dakota Dillard and Tristan Kitchens along with great-grandnephew Christian Norcross. She is also survived by long time companion Frank Jurica, his son Frank Jurica III and his granddaughter Caden Jurica She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Nell Hawkins Belew and her husband Allen Belew, and nephew Jame' Belew.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis. A Celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the Bardwell Church of Christ. The service will be conducted by Charles Hodge and John L. Sullivan. Honorary Pallbearers are James Jurica, Roy Blair, Dale Robinson, David Vinson, Joe Dover, Kenneth Svehlak and Frank Jurica III. Nona will be missed by many friends and family, and especially by her five beloved felines George, Gizmo, Pumpkin, Tootsie and Orphan.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in memory of Nona to the SPCA of Ellis County.
