The daughter of Adolphus B. and Dora Galloway Mitchell, Mrs. Adams was a graduate of Middle Tennessee Teachers College (now known as Middle Tennessee State University). She taught school in Woodbury, Tennessee. She moved to Murfreesboro in 1947 and became a full time mother to her six children.
Along with her husband, Dr. Carl Adams, Mrs. Adams established The Foundation for Geriatric Education, the National Health Foundation and the Adams Chair of Excellence in Health Care at MTSU.
