Pope. Born Michelangelo dei Conti, he was known for his blameless life, his ability, and his strong sense of dignity. He granted the investiture of Naples Sicily to Emperor Charles VI. As pope he regulated abuses in Spain, assisted Venice against the Turks with subsidies, decided against the Jesuits in the Chinese Rites controversy.
