W. Y. Burnett Dies; Rites Sunday P.M.


Wesley Young Burnett, 78, a retired farmer who lived in the Hail community, died in a rest home in McKinney Thursday, Jan. 28, 1960. He was the father of Mrs. Charlie Lavender, West 7th St., Bonham.


Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist church in Gober. Interment will be in the Gober cemetery. The Rev. Odie Carry of Randolph and the Rev. A. B. Fletcher of Gober, Baptist pastors, will officiate.


The survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rosa Burnett of the home; eight sons, Burt Burnett of Randolph, Noel Burnett of Windom Route 1, Floyd and Lloyd Burnett of Ladonia, Edwin Burnett of Brownsville, Bill Burnett of McKinney, and Robert and Leo Burnett, both of Nederland; two daughters, Mrs. Charlie Lavender of Bonham and Mrs. J. E. Burgess of Sherman.


Also surviving are two brothers, B. H. Burnett of Garland and J. W. Burnett of California; five half-brothers, John Burnett of Bonham, Gordon Burnett of Denison, Grady Burnett and Perry Burnett, both of Dallas, and Robert Burnett of Farmersville.


Four half-sisters, Mrs. Mattie Stanley and Mrs. Bob Lawson, both of Farmersville, and Mrs. Lillie Holmes of Richardson, and Mrs. Winnie Atchely of Knoxville, Tenn., and 26 grandchildren, also survive.


Born in Fannin county, near Savoy, June 2, 1881, Mr. Burnett was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Burnett. He was married to Miss Rosa Ella Chandler Sept. 4, 1914, in Gober, and they had lived in Fannin county since their marriage. He was a member of the First Baptist church at Gober, a member of the Masonic lodge at Bailey and a member of the IOOF lodge at Gober.
