DEATH OF HENRY L ABBOTT
Passed Away this Friday Morning at His Mountain Home
Henry L Abbott, one the best known men in the county died suddenly this Friday morning of pleurisy of the heart at his home at the Abbott Ranch several miles east of Sonora. The sad intelligence was received here over the phone by his brother, County Tax Collector E S Abbott.
Henry L Abbott was born in this county and was 45 years old. His father, the late Austin Abbott, was a prominent pioneer resident of the county and owner of the noted mountain ranch and apple orchard which bears his name and which at his death became the property of the son who has just passed away. The latter continued to improve the property, paying particular attention to the orchard and as a consequence the apples grown on it have a State-wide reputation. He was an earnest, honest, exemplary citizen and the news of his death created general regret.
Mr Abbott was in Sonora a week ago. He had been ill but on that day his physician expressed the opinion that the attack of pleurisy had passed the critical stage and that the patient by the exercise of care would soon be entirely well. But the disease affected Mr Abbott's heart Thursday night and in a few hours he breathed his last.
He was the type of man the county could ill afford to lose. Devoted to his family, loyal to his friends and good to his neighbors, he was in every essential a model citizen.
He leaves to mourn his death a widow, two sons and a daughter; also a mother, two sisters and a brother.
