KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

Captain Charles Andreano was appointed to the Des Moines Police Department on September 1, 1942. Promoted to Sergeant on February 16, 1948, Lieutenant May 16, 1948 and to Captain on February 16, 1957.

Captain Thomas Andreano was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a drowning call.

As the patrol car he was riding in entered the intersection of Army Post Road and Indianola Road it was struck by a car that ran a stop sign. The driver of the patrol car was injured in the accident and the two occupants of the other car died as a result of the accident as well. None of the four were wearing seat belts.

Captain Andreano had served with the Des Moines Police Department for 22 years.

He left behind his wife Mary, Son Charles Jr. and daughter Mary Jo.

Captain Andreano also had a brother on the force, Tony Andreano.
