Albert Lee Bailey, 88, 422 University Parkway, died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was a Native of Bakersville, NC, and a son of the late Jesse James and Sara Minnie Callahan Bailey.

Mr. Bailey was a resident of Johnson City most of his life, where he was an employee with Harris Wood Yard, Clinchfield Railroad and Mor-Flo Industries as a welder. He was a Baptist.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Ada Marie Bailey, a grandson, Robert Wayne "Buddy" Williams, two brothers, Jim Bailey and Joe Bailey, and three sisters, Fairy Johnson, Martha Devea and Dorothy Pierce.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ouida Janean Bailey, of the home, three sons; Albert Bailey, Johnson City, Reece and wife Susie Bailey, Johnson City, Danny and wife Sara Bailey, Bristol, TN, five daughters; Brenda Lilley, Johnson City, Judy and husband Kenneth Whaley, Johnson City, Loretta Bailey of the home, Deborah Brown, Chuckey, and Rhonda Bailey, Johnson City, two brothers; Don Bailey, Elizabethton and Emory Bailey, Johnson City, one sister; Viola Haney, Johnson City, eight grandchildren; Sheila Lilley, Barbara Jones, Devon Hurt, Daniel Lilley, Amanda Bailey, Timothy Bailey, Kimberly Bailey and Eric Whaley, one special great-granddaughter; Makayla Isabelle Jones (Winkie); several nieces and nephews.

The Bailey family would like to send a special thank you to Johnson City Medical Center Hospice, Home Healthcare, and especially Jackie, Sara, Jason, Shane, Lisa, and Mark.

The funeral service for Mr. Bailey will be conducted Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at 1 PM in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Deaton officiating. The graveside committal service will follow in Bailey Cemetery, Bakersville NC. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 PM in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
