Pfc. Dixon of Minneapolis moved at age 8 to Apple Valley, California where he was placed in foster care and then adopted by the Dixon family. They were charmed by the shy, soft-spoken boy who seemed to have such a big heart. The new family moved to Gladwin, where Dixon attended junior high and high school. He excelled in sports, playing football as a running back and setting the track record for the 100-meter dash. After a year at Michigan's Olivet College, he transferred to Northwood College in Midland, before dropping out and returning to Gladwin. There, he worked a few odd jobs, painting and as a hand at Lowe's department store, before wanting a new start in a new city. Bobby was just three months into his tour in Iraq. He was the gunner on top of a Humvee when it was hit by an improvised explosive device. He had been married about eighteen months. His wife had just graduated from business school, while he wanted to stay in the Army. He truly found what he was good at, what he enjoyed, what he wanted to do. He was 28.
