Richard's obituary appeared in the April 16, 2005 edition of the Daily Mining Gazette. It read as follows:

"Richard H. Brandt

DONKEN - Richard H. Brandt, 77, a resident of Donken, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at his home.

He was born August 28, 1927, in Polar, Wisc., a son of the late Herman and Ella (Feldt) Brandt. He attended school in Wisconsin and received his GED while serving in the military.

Richard worked for Penegor Lumber as a truck driver from 1953, until his retirement in 1988.
On October 24, 1953, he married the former Rhoda J. Baakko in Hancock.

Richard was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force, serving from 1945 to 1947.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Winona and Ranger Post 6165 VFW of South Range.

Richard enjoyed playing cards, especially the game of Solitaire, and spending time mowing the lawn.

Survivors include his wife, Rhoda of Donken; his children and grandchildren, Debra (Chester) Pindral of Painesdale and their children, Adam and Devin, LuAnn (Glenn) Hayrynen of Misery Bay, Sherri Brandt of Donken and her son, Josh, Laurie (Jim) Raffaelli of South Range and their children, Lucas Brandt, Gary, Scott and Kevin Raffaelli, Jennifer Brandt of Donken; two brothers, Robert (Sarah) Brandt of Georgia and Carlyle (Mary) Brandt of Oak Lawn, Ill.; one sister, Ernestine (Karl) Kin of Greenland; a brother-in-law, Robert Heider of the Tapiola Road; a sister-in-law, Rhodetta (Richard) Sloan of Helena, Mont.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides hisparents, Richard was also preceded in death by a sister, Marcella Heider.

As requested, cremation has taken place. A memorial service with military rites will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2005, at the First Lutheran Church of Winona with the Rev. John West to officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Friday at the church. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Winona. Arrangements are being handled by the Mountain View Mortuary of South Range, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
