Arleva "Leavy" Ratliff McBay born 1845 in GA to Milledge Moosely and Nancy Capes Ratliff. She married Samuel McBay on January 16, 1869 in Lincoln County, Tenn. The courthouse records have this marriage as Oliver Rattler to Sam McBay. Since Sam was only married to Arleva and they had a son born in 1870 it is assumed that the recorder just misunderstood the name given to be Oliver Rattler instead of Arleva Ratliff. So many times the man or couple could have had chew or snuff in their mouths back in the day and would have made it easy to mix the two names.
There was 8 known children born to Arleava and Sam McBay; John Thomas 1870, Fannie 1878, George 1880, Minnie Allice 1883, Edd 1888, Houston Manley 1890, Beulah 1891 and William F "Will" 1893. Notice there is a large gap between John Thomas 1870 and Fannie 1878, there may have been other children during those years but not found.
Arleva died May 15, 1910 and is buried in Campbell Cemetery, Lincoln County, Tennessee, her stone is a double stone she shares with her daughter, Fannie, who died in 1904 and not with her husband Sam who is buried under the same tree that Arleva and Fannie are buried but w/o a stone to mark his grave according to grandson J.T. McBay. Arleva's stone says wife of Sam McBay.
