Ethel Fleming is the daughter Marion and Mary Coogle Wilson. She was born in Bicknell, Knox County, Indiana. She married John M. Fleming July 18, 1902 and gave birth to their first daughter Veta Nell Fleming December 17, 1903, however, Veta only lived a short two years dying October 18, 1906 age 2 years, 10 mos and 1 day. Their second daughter Jessie Mae Fleming was born in 1905 in Georgia. Ethel and her husband John M. Fleming owned and opereated a laundry called Athens Empire Laundry in Athens, Georgia. There are several letters written by Ethel to her in-laws the John H. Flemings of Franklin County, Tennessee and John's first child of a previous marriage, Lillian. She speaks of how well their laundry business is doing and of the ill health of her precious little Veta and how she doesn't eat well and doesn't gain much weight. She also speaks of her brother in law Harry and his wife who lives nearby. Her husband John died in 1912 and in 1920 she is found living in Charleston South, Carolina as a widow w/ her daughter Jessie Mae and her father Marion Wilson who is also a widow.
