Stephanie Ashland watched the Food Network the way some dudes watch ESPN. Religiously.

Stephanie Lynn Ashland, 42, of Atlanta, died March 5.

Her boyfriend, Jeffrey Weinand of Atlanta, often watched with her. He had little choice.

Ms. Ashland was a gourmet cook. She prepared dishes from scratch. She raised Evan Montalbano, her 14-year-old son, on organic food. She liked red wines, Mr. Weinand said, no whites.

"Her biggest hobby was cooking," he said. "She was a tremendous cook. She would have liked nothing else than to have her own cooking show."

Friday night, Ms. Ashland had gotten her usual dessert, a spoonful of peanut butter. Evan heard his mom choking in the bathroom. She collapsed. He dialed 911 and performed CPR.

It's unclear how Ms. Ashland, 42, died. She either choked on the peanut butter, relatives say, or suffered cardiac arrest.

The funeral for Stephanie Lynn Ashland, of Atlanta, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Cathedral of Christ the King. H.M. Patterson & Son, Arlington Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Ashland was born in Burbank, Calif. After a divorce in the late 1990s, she and her two boys moved to Alpharetta to live with her parents. She completed coursework for a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Phoenix.

Recently, she was a senior account executive for Modern Luxury Media, publisher of Atlantan Magazine. David Yuhasz, handles the magazine's travel and real estate advertising. He'd worked with Ms. Ashland the past three years.

Mr. Weinand, her boyfriend, jokingly referred to him as Ms. Ashland's "office husband." Mr. Yuhasz didn't deny it.

"I started everyday and ended everyday with a phone call to Stephanie, and with about 10 calls in between," Mr. Yuhasz said. "A lesser man would have been jealous. She was an incredibly dedicated, hardworking professional. Her death will leave a huge void in my life and in this office."

"She was a ravenous salesperson who was very client-focused," Mr. Weinand said. "They absolutely loved her. She worked her tail off."

Prior to Modern Luxury Media, Ms. Ashland founded two businesses that are now dissolved. Messkaps, manufactured baby bibs, towels and blankets; Sterling Partners was a mortgage company she co-founded with a partner.

"She was a real go-getter," said her mother, Kathleen Duval, of Duluth. "She wasn't afraid of working at all, that's for sure. She was a wonderful daughter."

Stepfather Dennis Duval came into Ms. Ashland's life when she was a teen. They endured conflicts at first, but in time forged a relationship.

"She realized her mother and I were both there for her," said Mr. Duval of Duluth. "When she failed, we were there to help her. As time went on, we became much closer."

Back in the day, Ms. Ashland dated Mr. Weinand's friend, and he dated one of hers. Nearly five years ago, their paths crossed again at Chops.

"From there, it was automatic," Mr. Weinand said. "We weren't married, weren't engaged yet, but it was imminent. If she would have laid down an ultimatum, I would have been on my knees with a ring in about five seconds."
