A victory by any of those teams made
her day. A loss might spoil it.
She kept abreast of sports news -- what
was going on, who was traded, who
got picked up, who was hurt. She'd been
pleased that FSU, her alma mater, had
a solid recruiting season.
In December 2007, Ms. Brown returned
home after graduating from college
and landed an internship with the Braves.
She helped with pre-game activities
and promoted the team around the
metro area. To her, it was a dream
job.
"She was like a cheerleader for
the Braves," said her mother, Nancy
Boettcher of Stone Mountain.
"She'd hoped that it would lead
to a full-time job."
Jennifer Lindsay Brown died Saturday.
She had seen a doctor last week for
back pain and appeared to be on the
rebound. Then she blacked out twice
Saturday and had to be taken to
DeKalb Medical Center. An autopsy
revealed Ms. Brown died of a
pulmonary embolism; blood clots
in her left leg had traveled up
her body to her arteries, causing
her heart to stop. She was 25.
A memorial service was held Wednesday
at Tucker First United Methodist
Church, where she had been involved
with the youth program. Bill Head
Funeral Homes and Crematory,
Lilburn/Tucker Chapel, handled
arrangements.
Ms. Brown grew up in the Tucker area,
where she attended Livsey Elementary
School, Henderson Middle and Tucker High.
The 2003 honors graduate was active in the National Honor Society and Beta Club.
She attended FSU because her mother grew
up in Tallahassee and they'd often visited relatives who live in the college town. She earned a bachelor's degree in sports
management with a minor in business
management.
This sports fan liked to compile scrapbooks
and snap photographs. She had a stack of DVDs with photographs of her college years
that her parents found in her bedroom.
"She had them labeled for every quarter,"
her mother said.
After her Braves internship, she and
a friend traveled around South America
for several months. New Years 2009 was
spent in Brazil.
"It was a dream come true," said Mary
Katherine Crews of Athens. "When I found
out Jennifer was going with me, I
knew it was going to be one unforgettable
trip. She makes everything awesome."
Ms. Brown was known for exhibiting a
quick wit, adventurous spirit and
speaking the truth.
"She was very honest with us and told
us how she felt, but it always came from a loving place," Ms. Crews said. "She had
no problem with new environments and
was the only friend I could take
anywhere and know she'd be comfortable."
Ms. Brown was an associate producer for
Moxie Interactive in Atlanta.
Her father, David R. Brown, died in 2004.
Additional survivors include her stepfather, Steve Boettcher of Stone Mountain;
a sister, Brittany Williams of
Norcross; and a grandmother,
Virginia Everett of Havana, Fla.
