PRESQUE ISLE and DONNA, Texas - Parker Vaughn Allen, 87, died Dec. 24, 2006, at the Maine Veterans' Homes, Caribou, after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 11, 1919, in Presque Isle, the son of Mahlon and Helen (Mullen) Allen.
Mr. Allen was a local potato and beef cattle farmer for many years and a retired rural letter carrier.
He served with the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II and was a member of the Lions Club, Easton and the Lions Club, Weslaco, Texas. He was also a member of the Maine Rural Letter Carrier's Association.
Surviving, in addition to his loving wife of 57 years, Irene (Coffey) Allen, is one son, Andrew Allen and his wife, Gloria, of Presque Isle; one daughter, Susan "Sue" Madore and her husband, Scott, of Presque Isle; a sister, Merville Dahl of Niantic, Conn.; six grandchildren; three great-grand-children, several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lorraine Luce of Portland; and two brothers, Merrill "Bud" Allen of Jersey Shore, Pa., and Elwin Allen of Presque Isle.
A committal service will be held noon Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. (Published January 5, 2007 - Bangor Daily News)
