Frances Virginia Stickles was the only child from the marriage of William M. "Willie" Stickles and Lennis/Lennas (Ramey) Stickles, and is believed to have been born in Clarke Co., Virginia. Less than a year after the birth of baby Frances her father Willie Stickles was dead at the age of 22, from the Asian Flu which killed thousands there in northern Virgina/D.C. area. As of yet, no Death Certificate or obituary has been found for Willie, nor is it known just where Willie was living or working when he died. Further complicating things, Frances mother Lennas(Ramey) Stickles also spelled her "married" last name several different ways over the remainder of here life--appearing as Stickles, Stickels, and Stiekles.
Evidently Lennas and baby Frances moved back to Lennas parents house for a number of years after her husband Willie's death prior to taking a job in Washington, D.C. It is also believed that Lennis and Frances lived not only with Frances mother and father (Charles and Daisey Ramey) but also with her former mother-in-law Mary Anna Lee (Pier) Stickles in the Mt. Gilead area of Virginia, and the Martinsburg area of West Virginia.
Nothing else is known about the childhood of Frances Virginia Stickles until she and Leo William McCormack, both age 24, made an 'Application for License'of Marriage on 26 May 1942 in Washington, D.C. It is also interesting to note that Frances spelled her maiden name on this application as "Stickels," and at that time she was living in Washington, D.C.
The marriage of Leo and Frances would yield four children: Frank "Frankie" McCormack; Martin "Marty" McCormack; Monica (McCormack) Mock; and Mary Pat (McCormack) Cropper/Legg.
Leo and Frances after marrying lived in the Falls Church, Arlington, Virginia areas for many, many years thereafter.
Sadly, their youngest son "Marty" died when he was only nine years old (b: 20 Aug 1945; d: 15 Jul 1955) from cancer. NOTE: because Leo McCormack was a Navy veteran, young Marty was abled to be buried in Arlington Cemetery; subsequently when Leo died in 1990, he was buried with his son Marty--in Lot #33, Grave #9092. Frances V. (Stickles) McCormack died on Monday, 16 May 1988 from cancer at her home surrounded by family in Arlington, Virginia. After a Funeral Mass at St. Charles Catholic Church, she was buried along-side her oldest child, Frank L. McCormack (b: 16 May 1943; d: 3 May 1982) at National Memorial Park, Falls Church, Virginia. In her obituary, it states that she was survived by four grandchildren--but none named.
