Soviet Politician. First Woman to be admitted into the Soviet Politburo, Mayor of Moscow. Her experience in politics began when she joined the Communist Youth Union. In 1956 Furtseva became Secretary of the Central Committee, and the following year she joined the Politburo. She eventually became Soviet Minister of Culture.
