Maine's deadliest since a fire that killed five in Hartland in 1984.

David Bragdon Jr., 27, Ashley Thomas, 29, Christopher Conlee, 25, and Maelisha Jackson, 26, all died of smoke inhalation. The fifth victim has been tentatively identified as Nicole Finlay, 26. She also died of smoke inhalation.

Born in Oak Harbor, Wash., he was the son of David Bragdon Sr. and Pamela Bragdon Rhodus. Moving to Maine as a young child, David was a 2005 graduate of Rockland District High School. He later attended USM in Portland.

During high school, David was an active participant in many theater productions and cheerleading. Skateboarding and music were his passion; and he was considered quite an artist. After he was given a guitar for graduation, he taught himself to play, wrote many compositions and music pieces, and eventually joined a band. He later broke off on his own and performed at many local venues.

In his younger years, David worked with his father in his electrical business. Together they had many happy hours and made many special memories working side by side. Most recently he was employed as a host and prep-cook at the Great Lost Bear in Portland. His family said he loved his job, and the people he got to meet there. They said he never met anyone who disliked him; and was a kind and generous โ€œpeople person.โ€ David loved to dance and is remembered by his brother as a โ€œwild child.โ€ He lived in the moment and loved to have fun. His passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of the many people he touched with his vibrant smile, witty personality, and love of life.

Do not stand at my grave and weep

I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamond glints on snow,

I am the sun on ripened grain,

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.ย

I am the soft stars that shine at night.ย

Do not stand at my grave and cry,ย

I am not there; I did not die
