Actress. She was born in Bucharest, Romania. Her mother, actress Fanseta Vermont of the National Theatre in Bucharest, died of kidney failure when Marie was nine years old. In a play, written by her father, dramatist Grigore Ventura, she made her acting debut in “L’enfant naturelle” on February 21, 1901 at the National Theatre in Bucharest. At the conclusion of her theater education, on May 21, 1901, she was the best of her year. She was then granted a scholarship by the Romanian government to continue her education at the Conservatory in Pairs. Marie had two notable affairs; first with actor Edouard de Max, then with Odeon’s director, André Antoine. In 1922, she became the 366th sociétaire. Awards include: the Légion d’Honneur. She became a drama teacher in 1941. Yet, she returned to the stage when Jean Anouilh wrote “Colombe” in 1951 and again in 1952 for “La valse des toréadors.” Marie died of kidney failure, like her mother.
