Actress, director. Born Helen June Patricia Blamires. In the early 1940's, she trained as a director at the London's old Vic theatre centre, where she became an assistant director. Upon returning to New Zealand, She worked on television programs, like Pukemanu, Close to home, New Zealand's first soap opera, Gloss, and the 1981 movie Bad blood. In Australia, she regularly appeared in Prisoner cell block H, and The flying doctors. Made Dame commander of the order of the british empire in 1993 for her services to acting, she passed away just 4 days before her 86th birthday.
