Born August 30, 1956 in Corpus Christi, Texas, she was a compassionate and caring person who lived her life in service to others. Her quick wit and contagious laugh were endearing traits that brought joy to those around her. She boldly approached life despite her leukemia, allowing her free spirit and love of life to flourish in her close relationships and career.
Shari graduated from Dulles High School in 1975 and attended Southwestern University in San Marcos, Texas. She served as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines for many years before returning to school to pursue a nursing degree. She graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Nursing in 2000, being inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Her passion for care of the cancer patient led her to pursue research first at MD Anderson Cancer Center and then later at Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.
Shari is survived by her mother, Carolyn Jensen of Houston, Texas; father, Ronald Oskey and wife Carol, of Port Charlotte, Florida; step mother, Beverly Plath and husband Bob of Lighthouse Point, Florida; sister and best friend, Kari Behringer of Houston, Texas; brother, Thomas Reardon and wife Roxanne of Federal Way, Washington; brother, Chris Champion and wife Angela of Newport Beach, California; brother, Ronnie Oskey and wife Heather of Port Charlotte, Florida; sister, Jennifer Teich and husband Craig of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; nephew, James Behringer and precious niece, Hannah Mae Behringer, both of Houston, Texas; beloved dogs, Milly and Cooper; as well as numerous extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery on Antoine Street in Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charitable organizations cherished by Shari, MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
Shari will be deeply missed by those who love her dearly and will live on in the hearts and minds of all whose lives she touched.
