LAVERNE R. BAHM, 95, retired teacher from Udall, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, April 8, 2009 at Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City, Kansas.
Born on October 30, 1913 in Carmen, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Clyde and Mollie (Gillig) Mahoney. She was raised near Burlington, Oklahoma where she attended grade school and later graduated from Burlington High School in 1931. Laverne graduated from Northwestern State Teachers College in Alva, Oklahoma, with a Bachelors Degree in Education.

She was united in marriage on April 17, 1942, to Theodore J. Bahm in Muskogee, Oklahoma. For 56 of their 62 years of married life, they resided on their farm south of Udall, Kansas. Laverne enjoyed a very successful career of 35 years of teaching in various schools throughout Oklahoma and Kansas. She retired from the Winfield Public School System. Ted preceded her in death on April 17, 2005.

She was a member of the Udall United Methodist Church where she was very active during her retirement years. LaVerne was a member of the Retired Teachers, Kappa Kappa Gamma, EHU, Dale Club, and a square dance group. She enjoyed china painting, crocheting, quilting and music, especially playing the organ and keyboard. She and Ted had also enjoyed traveling in earlier years.

Her family includes: Her son: Larry of Arkansas City, KS; Her daughters: Jean Harder and husband Ivan of Lenexa, KS; and Pat Reinecker and husband Dale of Bedford, TX; Her 7 grandchildren: Kendra, Angie, Stacy, Steven, Dustin, Devin and Deanna; and her 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gene Mahoney.

A service of celebration of LaVerne's life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens in Wellington, Kansas. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Friday, April 10, 2009. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening. A memorial has been established in LaVerne's name for the Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund in Arkansas City. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
