~~~Uncle Sal was my Uncle by Marriage, he and Aunt Francie were my Favorite In-laws.~~~
Adored husband of Frances(Francie). Devoted father of James.Loving grandfather of Gia and Jay. Beloved brother of Fiorindo, Mario,Sarah(Glorioso) and Connie(DiMino). Cherished Uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Uncle Sal was also a United States Veteran of World War II.
I first met Uncle Sal in 1978 when I was dating his nephew Freddie,eventually who I married.I met him, Aunt Francie, Uncle Mario,and Aunt Ida over my Mother-In-law's house.He was part of my husbands paternal side of the family, and my mother-in-law seemed much closer to her husbands side of the family than her own at the time.The Cocurullo side of the family would come and pick her up and take her to whatever various relative was making the holidays on certain years.She spoke to all of them quite frequently.They came over and kept her company. They helped her in any way they could.The five of them loved to play cards, Fran, Francie,Sal, Mario and Ida.The three brothers even had their plots in a row and they were all bringing a deck of cards for "paradise".Sadly Uncle Mario passed away while at his vacation home in New Mexico and was buried there. So while in the same row Sal and Fred are not next to each other.Like it really matters!!!Uncle Sal and Aunt Francie were very good to me, and they came to our home for several Holidays as their son Jimmy lived in New Orleans.He called her Mommy, she called him Daddy and they were perfect for each other.
I remember going to their house one evening before I was married and I really was not feeling well. Uncle Sal made me a concoction of something(it was very sweet),he told me I'd feel great after I drank it and to try it.I don't know to this day what was in it, but I was bombed after 10 minutes. I don't know if I felt better,but I really didn't care. LOL Probably something his brother Fred had made went into that glass!
In later years Uncle Sal developed Alzheimer's disease and started to wander, which caused Aunt Francie great distress.Although one time he wandered away because he swore Aunt Francie had a boyfriend stashed in Brooklyn and no one was going to have his Francie.It was funny afterward, but not at the time.
Aunt Francie died first in 1989, and Uncle Sal just two years later. No these were not famous people, but they made me feel welcome from the moment I met them,and I considered them not as in-laws, but as my Aunt and Uncle.I am sure they now dance(and play cards) in Paradise.
