As a kid I never really knew Katherine. She was in the group of cousins that were enough older than me that we didn't have anything in common.
I was around her in the summers when they'd come to visit our grandpa and grandma Vaughn there at Wayton, AR.
I remember her as being fairly quiet until she got tickled over something, then the laughter would roll from her in great gushes. When she smiled, her whole face lit up and even as a kid watching her, I couldn't help but smile and want so badly to be a part of whatever the joke was that everyone was in on except all us younger ones.
Naturally as a member of the 'younger' set of cousins, of which her baby brother was a member, we were pretty much left to figure things out for ourselves. We still had fun hanging out on the fringes of the group of 'older' cousins.
Katherine always seemed so confident and self assured.
She was one of the older cousins that, as a kid, I wanted to grow up to be like. I hope in some ways I've realized some of my childhood desires...
