William L. Vickery Sr. 66; U.S. Marine Corps veteran

Funeral services for William L. Vickery Sr., 66, of New Albany, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 30, at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann and Naville Funeral Homes, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. He died Thursday, July 26, 2007, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services after a long illness.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a patrolman for the New Albany Police Department for 33 years and was awarded their highest honor in 2005, Patrolman of the Year.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Campbell Vickery; four sons, William L. Vickery Jr. and his wife, Rosa Saettel, Robert Vickery, Jeffery Vickery and his wife, Sherry and Michael Vickery and his wife, Renata; a sister, Sharon Marie Hamilton; 12 grandchildren, Shawn Vickery, Misty Vickery, Sara Saettel, Danielle Vickery, Billy Elswick, Tina Elswick, Shannon Elswick, Timmy Elswick, Nina Vickery, Renee Vickery, Alan Huddleston and Amy Phipps; 10 great-grandchildren, Aaron Ready, Kaitlyn Ready, Megan Ready, Joseph Gonzalez, Elijah Saettel, Gabryelle Saettel, Jacob Elswick, Nolan Elswick, Kenneth Cahill and Derin Moran; a nephew, Steven Hamilton; and two nieces, Julie Eddy and Gayla Mosley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Dorothy Marie Vickery; also two grandchildren, Jeremy Phipps and Aaron Saettel.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 29 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday.
