Miles Neil Austin was born Jan 23, 1894, one of twelve children born to Jessie and Mary Howard Austin
at Burrton, Kansas. He passed away on January 13, 1980, at the Halstead Hospital at the age of 85 years,
11 months and 20 days. He had been a resident in the Halstead Nursing Center the past year.
On January 31, 1915 he was united in marriage to Myrtle May McMurry at her parents home near Burrton, Kansas.
They lived in the Mt. Hope-Burrton area until 1928, at that time they moved to Hartley, Texas, in 1933 they moved to Farley,
New Mexico, in 1935 they returned to Kansas and established a Shortohorn Ranch in Butler County where they resided
40 years in the Leon, Towanda, and Rosalia areas until they retired and moved to Halstead, Kansas, in 1974.
He was a Charter Member of the Farm Bureau of Harvey County, He was deeply interested in the soil and water conservation programs
and received an award for his works at his Rosalia Ranch.

Halstead- Miles Neil Austin, 85, died Sunday at Halstead Hospital. Born Jan 23 1894, at Burrton, he married Myrtle M McMurry Jan 31 1915, at Burrton. He was a retired farmer and stockman, and lived here since 1974.
He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Bentley; Farm Bureau.
Survivors: Widow, of the home; sons: Neil, Eureka; James, Towanda; Robert, Eldorado; Miles, Alamosa, Colo; Roger, Beaumont; daughters; Mrs Josephine Smith, Tracy, Calif; Mrs Harriet Tabor, Salina; Mrs Betty Jo Worthington, Eagle River, Alaska; 35 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church; Rev Arthur L Jones, the Rev Burl Allison, Burial will be at Star Cemetery, Burrton, Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead.Family suggests memorials to the Harvey County Cancer Fund.
