Pauline Gerteis, Argonia, Died; Ill Only 24 hours
Wichita, Feb. 17. - Pauline Gerteis, daughter of Louis Gerteis, banker of Argonia and former president of the board of Education here, died at 2:30 o'clock Thursday morning, on her seventeenth birthday, after an illness of twenty-four hours with influenza.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerteis had sent out invitations for a party last night in honor of the birthday of Pauline and her twin sister, Eleanor.
Miss Gerteis' mother, Mrs. Florence Howard Gerteis, is the daughter of Mrs. J.E. Howard, 321 North Waco. Her father was city commissioner at the time of his death, two years ago.
Besides her parents, twin sister, and grandmother, the girl is survived by another sister, Margaret, age 15, and twin brothers, Louis and Jeremiah Gerteis. age 13.
The Gerteis children, all were born in Wichita. They lived at 1114 Lewellen and attended Park School. Eight years ago the family moved to Argonia. Pauline was a senior in the Argonia high school and had a wide circle of friends both there and in Wichita.
A short funeral service was conducted at the residence at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon after which the body was brought to the home of Mrs. Howard, 321 North Waco, where it is lying in state.
