Anna Jemima Simms, the eldest child of George and Hester (Jones) Simms, married Augustus Bradley Sweeney in Knox Co., IL, in December 1855. A. B. does not appear with the family in the 1870 census. It appears that he was involved in politics and possibly worked in a government job in Washington, D.C. Anna and A.B. had six children: Frank/Francis, Rita, Annie, Mary Alice "Allie", George S., and Margaret Hester "Maggie".

Ann and the children removed to Kansas with her Simms relatives around 1872. In the late 1870s, she became ill, and her sister Lydia Maria joined her in Kansas to help care for the children. When Ann died, Lydia Maria cared for the children and took them with her to Nebraska in 1882.
