OCEANA -- Thomas Harris Bailey, 77, died Friday, Jan. 16, at a Beckley hospital following a long illness.

Born March 7, 1909, in Wyoming County, he was the son of the late Richard and Emma Bailey.

Mr. Bailey was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County and a 37-year supervisor retired from Eastern Associated Coal. He was a former member of the Kopperston Lions Club, a member of the Oceana Rotary Club, the Pineville Masonic Lodge 138, the Clear Fork Valley Golf Club and the OH-9 health board. He was a former city councilman for the Town of Oceana.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily Jane Bailey on June 10,1986; a son, Donald Bailey; two daughters, Lillian and Patricia Bailey; and three brothers, George, Richard and Wade Bailey.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Tyree of Kopperston and Barbara Wallace of Brooklyn, Mich.; three sisters, Vada Wooten and Versie Perry, both of Cyclone, and Violet Ramsey of Cornelius, N.C.; two grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Kopperston Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Campbell Stuart McClean, Judd Alfred and Elder Dick Goodwin officiating. Entombment will be in Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Matheny.

Friends may call today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Evans and Evans Funeral Directors in Oceana and at the church one hour prior to services.

Pallbearers will be Larry Baldwin, French Manning, Richard Davis, C.H., Terry and John Wooten, Jim Overton and Coy Bailey.
