Silas was the son of Asa and Persis (Cutting) Boynton. There are two birth records. One has January 28, 1809, and the other has January 27, 1810. I'm not sure which is correct. He was married to (1) Patty Torrence, (2) Eliza Gould and (3) a widow named Lydia Ann (Grout) Hurd. He was originally buried in Pelham Hollow Cemetery and later moved to Quabbin Park Cemetery. The record from Pelham Hollow states that his stone was in poor condition and broken. Instead of any dates, it just had "At Rest" engraved on it. This is all that's left.

He had four children with his second wife, Eliza Gould. They were Martha Ann (Boynton) Rhodes Wilson, born in 1840; Semantha Jane (Boynton) Pratt, born in 1842; Joseph Elihu Boynton, born in 1844; and Phebe Maria (Boynton) Shaw, born in 1846. With his third wife, he had two sons: George Everett Boynton, born in 1866; and Israel Myret Boynton, born in 1870.
