This is John Drury who was known to everyone as Jacky.

Jacky was my Dads uncle and brother to Michael (Sonny) Drury my grand-dad.
Michael Sonny Drury

Jacky was the son of Michael Drury and katie Flanagan and was just 1 year old when his mom died and his father died a year later. He and his brothers were reared in an orphanage.

Jacky was known as a sea scavanger and lived in a little cottage on the local beach.
He spent his time rod fishing for sea fish which he sold to local housewives, he also collected driftwood and anything else he found on the beach.
Sometimes he worked for the local farmers.
In the summer he loved helping tourists to fish.
He loved music and was a very well known drummer in local bands playing Irish music.

He came to our house every day for dinner and we loved to visit his house (he always had buckets of sand which he would tip onto the floor and let us play all we wanted, he always said it was just sand and could be swept up again).
In the summer we spent long days playing on the beach swimming and fishing with him.

He never married but he loved me and my sisters like we were his children and saw us every day.
His brother my grand-dad died when I was just a baby of 1 year and he always said he was a stand in grand-dad, and he did a wonderful job.

Sadly he passed away from a stroke.
He was always our loved Uncle Jacky and I miss him every day

A big thank you to James Seidleman for the beautiful restoration of the photos of Uncle Jacky
