Mena Dyda Speaker was born on March 13, 1913 to Ilko and Naska Dyda, both from Austria. Mena had one brother, Johnny Dyda, and four sisters, Annie, Rosie, Catherine and Helen. Mena married Theodore J. Speaker from Hitchcock and had six children, the first of whom, Billie Lee Speaker, died at several days of age. Her other children were Robert (deceased 1994), Theodore Jr (deceased July 8, 2021), James (deceased August 12, 2002), Patricia Speaker Bennett and Shirley Speaker Baer. Mena was a homemaker and was married to Theodore until his death on December 14, 1984. She continued to live in Alta Loma. She had a massive stroke on her 80th birthday and was bedridden until her death on March 14, 1997. She was cared for by Patricia and her husband Paul and their daughter Anastasia in her home until her death. She is buried alongside her husband.
