Aurilla was my great grandmother. She was one of eleven children; Betsey, Chauncey, Lorenzo, Alvin, Laura, Aurilla, Adaline, Samuel, Aaron, Joyce and Clarissa. born to Freedom, and Catherine 'Kate' Black Way of Chautauqua Co NY.
Freedom was the son of Timothy and Molly Baker Way,
Abt 1852 Chautauqua co NY Aurilla married Francis Spaulding Lanning, son of John and Triphena Spaulding Lanning, b 18 May 1832 d 7 Oct 1863 South Carolina while serving in the Civil War. I still have many of Francis' letters that he wrote to his family while serving with Co. D 112th Regiment NY Volunteers. Truly heartbreaking to read his letters.
Aurilla raised their four children, William D., George W., Clarissa R., and John Edgar Lanning, alone as she never remarried. The children all did right well by their mother.
