Jonathan was a 1999 graduate of Gonzaga College High School, where he was a member of the varsity lacrosse team. He studied engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University and joined the Virginia National Guard in 2002. He was a Staff Sergeant in the 237th Engineer Co. of the Virginia National Guard and a decorated veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, training since July 22, to clear roads in Iraq of homemade bombs. He was scheduled to ship out to Iraq in the fall. He became ill and died enroute to the hospital. He had contracted bacterial meningitis. Jonathan is survived by his parents, Kathryn and Michael; step-parents, Taylor Cosby and Deborah Forde; sisters, Susannah, Annabel, Allie, Carrington and Erin; and beloved girlfriend, Brandy Carter.
