Elected Treasurer of Saguache County in 1918, a post to which she was reelected twice, but subsequently resigned due to poor health. Anne Ellis lived in New Mexico, California, and Arizona in an attempt to cure life-threatening asthma. She was awarded a honorary Master of Letters in 1938 from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
