Col. Lilly was a pilot in the Air Force and proudly served his country for 24 years. Bob was shot down while flying rescue missions in his helicopter in Vietnam in 1965 and was a P. O.W. for over 7 years and was a decorated war hero and great American soldier. He received the following decorations and commendations: Silver Stars, Bronze Star Medal, Legion of Merit, Air Force Commendation Medal, 18 Purple Hearts and 26 Battle Stars.
