Visitation for Dean M. Dirks, 60, of Ashkum, will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Knapp Funeral Home, Clifton, and from 9:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashkum, until the 10:30 a.m. services. The Rev. Jan Horne will officiate.

Burial, with graveside military rites by the American Legion, will be in Ashkum Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family wishes.

Dean died Monday (March 24, 2008) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.

Mr. Dirks was a service technician for 38 years for General Telephone and Verizon.

He was born Feb. 12, 1948, in Watseka, the son of Donald Sr. and Evelyn L. Wrede Dirks. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Ashkum American Legion. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he was a former board member. He enjoyed going out to dinner and having coffee with friends.

Surviving are his wife, the former JoAnne Strode, whom he married June 26, 1971, in Ashkum; two daughters, Christa Dirks of Bradley, Carla Dirks of Mt. Prospect; one sister and brother-in-law, Deanna and Mike Welsh of Goodland; and one brother, Donald Dirks Jr. of Ottawa.

His parents are deceased.
