Harriet Lockhart Gale.
Mrs. Geneva Lockhart, who left Sabetha about two years ago to live with her daughter, Mrs. Viola Clelland, of Goff, received a telegram last Thursday telling of the death of her daughter, Mrs. Harriet Gale at Alhambra, Calif. Mrs. Gale has been in ill health for the past three years. She suffered a stroke December 2 of last year and never recovered.
Before her marriage, Mrs. Gale was a successful school teacher. She was born and reared in the Woodlawn vicinity where she attended the rural school.
She attended Sabetha high school and was graduated with the class of 1906. While she attended high school she lived in the home of Dr. and Mrs. W .L. Carlyle, who have been her good personal friends since. During her illness and her residence in California the past eight years they have given her every possible assistance. They found a home for her son, Lockhart, in a Methodist school where he is being housed and educated. Clara Pohl Ogden, a former school mate and other former Sabethans have been interested in Mrs. Gale and did all they could for her.
Mrs. Gale was a member of the Methodist church and Sunday school when she lived in Sabetha, and was faithful in attendance and service. She taught school in Oklahoma and in Nemaha County and was highly regarded as an instructor. She was an excellent seamstress and did beautiful handwork.
Mrs. Gale was devoted to her son and her and her chief interest during her illness was that he be properly cared for.
Besides her son, Lockart Gale, who is fifteen years old, Mrs. Gale is survived by her mother, Mrs. Geneva Lockhart; three sisters, Mrs. Viola Clelland of Goff, Mrs. Eleanor Wolfe, Mrs. Margaret Marshall of Tulsa, Okla.; four brothers, Harry Lockhart of Colorado Springs; Bert Lockhart of Morrill, Ben Lockhart of Goff and Alva Lockhart of Wamego.
It is understood that funeral services and burial were in Alhambra.
