ANTOINETTE M. BACKOFEN, 94, of Fort Wayne, died on Monday, March 19, 2012, at Lutheran Life Villages. Born June 23, 1917, in Rochester, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Bruno. She was a sales supervisor at JC Penney, in Southtown Mall, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Surviving are her sons, Charles W. (Mary) Backofen of Morgantown, Ind. and Thomas M. (Lynne) Backofen of Orland Park, Ill.; grandchildren, Marc (Tricia) Backofen of Indianapolis and Lora (Tim) Powers of Chicago, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald W., in 2008; one brother; and four sisters. Mass of Christian Burial is 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4500 Fairfield Ave., with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Father Cyral Fernandes officiating. Entombment in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Preferred memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
